    Thanks Paul. So just to clarify, York MC is a Club affiliated to the BMC and I think all York Members will have received the BMC circular.
    It’s worthy of note, that the great bulk of our membership cost is passed on to the BMC as affiliation fees. Out of our £30 subs, somthing like £23 goes to the BMC and the York club runs on around £7 per person p.a.

    One of the chief benefits of BMC affiliation is accident insurance. The topic was cruelly highlighted about 3 years ago when an affiliated club was liable for £5 million after an accident at a climbing wall. Non-members will not have BMC insurance backing, of course, unless they are individual BMC members.

    Certainly, Tristan. The AGM is open to everyone who has paid subs and has their name on the Members List. Which of course includes you. !

    Great Stuff. As of last night, there are nine potential participants, so the course will be full if a date suitable for all can be identified. I have started a Poll to see about dates

    Last night was our second “Knavesmire Night” following Thursday 5th August and I thought it worked really well. Although quite a number of members are away this week, the Knavesmire brought together folk who had climbed and walked at different locations, or not at all, plus it was a pleasure to see Linda again after some 2 years. I imagine Linda saw the Knavesmire Night on the website as she was not (until now) in the WhatsApp group. A bubbling discussion included many plans and aspirations to sow the seeds of future trips. So this was meeting all of its objectives and I hope we can continue to support a monthly York pub night in coming months.

    I am a regular user of Skin So Soft against Scottish midges, and I think it is effective. It seems to form a slightly oily layer on the skin, so that midges may not be deterred from landing (you can feel slight tickles) but they seem not to bite.
    Cannot say whether it would deter ticks. I’ve only been ticked once. Four of us camped near the idyllic (but tragic) ruin of Ardvreck Castle on Loch Assynt and we discovered several ticks each during the car drive the following morning. No ill effects thankfully. The lovely grass we camped upon, was probably a sheep grazing.
