When: 19th - 21st June 2026

The forecast for the weekend was good apart from the Friday. Rain was in the air on Friday which gave a great excuse to go โ€˜shoppingโ€™ in Ambleside! (New boots!)

Most people arrived in Langdale late afternoon / evening. We assembled in the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, about 10min walk from Raw Head, for a few drinks, some food and to hatch a plan for Saturday.

A few decided to go to the Raven Crag, which is a short walk from the hut and just behind and above the Old Dungeon Ghyll pub. Saturday was a beautiful sunny day, light winds and not too hot - perfect for climbing. In the morning, Emma and Rose teamed up to climb Revelation HS 4b, Steve and Alex chose Bilberry Buttress VS 4c and Derek and Martin had a go at the Original Route S 4a. Further routes were tackled in the afternoon.

Another breakaway group consisting of Dave C, Charley, Elise and Chess decided to head off into the hills to do some grade 3 scrabbling and a little bit of caving along the way!

Their route took them up Pike of Stickle, to the Neolithic centre of specialised stone tool production (the axes were made from polished greenstone volcanic tuff - according to google!) and then down the scree gully of doom!

Lucy, Mimi, Dom and Joe decided to do some sport climbing at Runestone Crag. This was an ideal location to practice sport climbing techniques and chill out!

Gav and Rich went a bit further afield and walked over to Gimmer Crag to spend their day climbing ????? A great day was had out on the rock and finished off with an ice cool beer in the local pub - a perfect day!

On Saturday evening we had a communal meal at the hut. Spag Bol a la Jamie Oliver, (Chess was in charge of the spaghetti!) followed by sticky toffee pudding provided by Martin and a great selection of cheese and biscuits courtesy of Steve.

Sunday was another glorious day. Steve, Martin and Derek headed over to Gimmer to climb Asterisk VS 4b. A single pitch climb lead by Steve and returned to the start by abbing back down the route.ย

Chess, Dave, Elise and Charley went to Long Scar where Chess bossed her first lead climb. ๐Ÿ‘

All in all it was a fabulous weekend helped by the glorious weather, great company and wonderful food!! ๐Ÿ˜€
