Hi everyone, I’ve been in touch with the Fell and Rock Climbing Club and they’re willing to let us use Brackenclose for a weekend. It is a very historic hut at the head of Wastwater and the foot of Scafell, right at the heart of where climbing in the Lake District really got going. There are masses of climbing routes on Gable and Scafell plus fantastic walking in the remote and quiet hills of the western lakes with spectacular views of Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant. There is also a good pub up the road at Wasdale head.

Being in the hut means we can make this an all-weather meet with options including the Ravenglass to Eskdale railway, St Bees bouldering and micro nav if the forecast is iffy. We’ll run the trip unless there’s a severe weather warning.
I’ve requested 14 beds. That’s half the hut’s capacity and the maximum I can take. 4 in the male dorm, 4 in the female dorm and 6 in the mixed dorm. There is a National Trust campsite next door and we can coordinate plans if you stay there instead. Sorry for those with kids but it’s adults only in the hut. The FRCC are a bit old school.
To keep costs down I’ll try to coordinate shared travel and a shared meal on Saturday night. Hut fees are £16/night and I’m going to ask for £8 to cover the food.
