SpectatorHear hear !! A good initiative by Mr Mirelman, and reasonably well attended; thanks to all who supported the event.
I thought the Committee Room was big enough for our needs, warmer (according to Sam) plus the space generated a bit more “buzz” than the larger back room would have. Food for thoughtANDREW E

Both technology and fashion have arrived on winter hills since that was written, and there are many different preferences !!
As for me, I have kept my top half warm since 1994 using Buffalo jackets worn next to the skin, supplemented by a goretex shell jacket in foul conditions.
I never have any anxiety as I know with the buffalo I will always be warm.
Last winter and this one, I have taken to Paramo Cascada 2 trousers (the ones that fit properly !!) worn with merino wool long johns. No overtrousers. I have stayed dry and warm in cold driving rain and in all winter conditions. (Annual re-proofing necessary).
But other folks will have other strokes, and gear is expensive !

SpectatorRhianna, your appeal has been more effective than the entreaties of my wife, in getting me to look hard at stuff I’ve kept for years “just in case” I would maybe need to lend it out. I’ll have a box of goretex jackets, trousers etc on Thursday

SpectatorI have a commitment elsewhere on the Sunday, but plan to stay both Friday night and Saturday night.
I have had a car along to this hut on two previous trips. The instructions said to turn left through a 5-barred gate. Dolly and I found a gate, and ran into difficulties heading up the mountainside. This first gate does NOT have 5 bars. But if you have an eye for gates, and understand the importance of bars, then there is no problem, and one can relish the precision of language.
