Hi all, seasons greetings and best wishes. The weather forecast in Cumbria is set cold and fair for the latter part of this week, there is a full moon on the 30th and some of us may have excessive calories to burn off as well as new kit and cameras to try out.

In the morning on Friday the 1st I am planning to head over to the Lakes to do a shortish route with a night on the fell before another short route and return on Saturday. Temperatures will be about or below freezing but with the right gear should be a very pleasant night out.

If anyone else is interested in coming along please post on here or give me a call and a plan can be evolved. Nathan and myself are also planning to have a local night out on Wednesday to evict spiders and the like from sleeping bags, bivvy bags and cooking gear. If anyone wants to consider joining just let us know.

There may, of course, be changes due to covid restrictions but we will have to wait and see how things develop through the week.

    Cheers! Dave M

First, the good news. The weather forecast for Cumbria couldn’t be better for a walk with a cold night out on the fells. The bad news is that we can’t go there due to the tier 4 restriction. Ah well, we’ll see how things go over the next few months.

Yesterday Nathan and I had a look around the northern end of Cropton Forest. The northern area of the forest is relatively remote and quiet with a lot of tree felling underway. There are decent tracks around the forest, perfect for cycling or easy walking. We didn’t stay out overnight due to another commitment today.

Best wishes to everyone for the new year. Hopefully the covid pandemic will be drawn to a close and all will be well once more. Maybe Almscliff in the summer?

    Cheers, Dave M
