This week is Fox Pub Week, Thursday being the first Thursday of July which, sadly, means that the days are now getting shorter. However, there’s still plenty of time to get outside for climbing on Thursday evenings and whenever the sun is shining.
Despite my optimism, the weather forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon isn’t looking good for outdoor climbing. No doubt there will be a group getting together at the Red Goat in the early evening on Tuesday. I can’t make it this week.
On Wednesday Chess has mentioned Freeklime as a possible venue for anyone that is available. If you’re interested in a bouldering session at Freeklime let us know on WhatsApp and maybe get together there. Club discount/concession rates/benefits for Harrogate Wall, Freeklime and Red Goat are here: https://www.yorkmc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Discount.pdf
Thursday evening climbing will be at Almscliff. I’m aiming to be there by 5pm but will leave early to be at the Fox by 8. The weather forecast is good for Thursday but may be a tad breezy.
The expected weather for the weekend is warm and dry in most places so should present a good opportunity to get outside for just about anything.
The Big Depot is holding a ‘Climbing Fair’ on Saturday the 11th of July. Our Club will have a table at the fair and we can have up to four members to help promote outdoor mountaineering and climbing. We will set up our stall at about 9:30am and the fair finishes at 2pm. The manager has kindly agreed that our four representatives will have free access to the climbing wall after the fair finishes. I’m going and will pick up Matthew D in York. Anyone else? Please let me know asap.
Cheers!
