    Hi

For our first post lock down collective activity the club has selected a medium grade walk in the Dales. It’s a beautiful and interesting hill and vale walk that Penny and I completed last year.

    https://www.walkingenglishman.com/dales26.htm

Meet at Grassgill lane in West Witton at 1030 am on Monday 5 April 21. There is limited parking here but more along the road into the village and around it. PLEASE respect the locals and park considerately and when we are gathering you should still respect the 2m rule unless from the same household or bubble. If car sharing please pay attention to the latest Govt COVID guidance.

You must be a paid up member of the club to take part (for insurance purposes).

You must let me know that you intend to come along on via this forum post or via the club WhatsApp group.

If you have a COVID shielding letter from the Govt or NHS (even though this scheme has ended) or if you have any of the symptoms of coronavirus, or live with someone with symptoms, you must not attend. The same applies if you have been contacted by the track and trace service as having been in contact with someone who has the virus and you have been instructed to self-isolate.

There is nothing technical about the walk but there is a strenuous uphill section and it is roughly 10 miles so if it’s your first activity for a while please make sure you feel up to it and are fit enough.

The Spring weather is as variable as ever so please bring or wear appropriate outdoor hillwalking clothing to keep you warm and dry and suitable footwear, it’s quite boggy in sections. Due to restrictions food and snacks can’t be shared outside your bubble or family group so you must bring water, snacks and lunch as you feel needed by yourself. Your kit should also include your own immediate first aid kit, hand sanitiser, wipes, face mask and gloves.

If attending you must be familiar with and comply with the latest government guidance:

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-grassroots-sports-guidance-for-the-public-and-sport-providers#organised-sport

As well as the guidance from the BMC.

    https://www.thebmc.co.uk/essential-club-know-how

The only risks are some road crossings and pinch points around styles and gates. So normal precautions for crossing a road and being aware of touching gates or getting too close to each other should be borne in mind.

This all seems a bit strange for a club where we used to just jump in a car and go. But these are strange times and we have a duty of care for each other and the community we will be passing through.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone. It’s time to get out there and this is an important warm up.

    Best Wishes John

    Hi Caroline

Yes of course it’s fine. There will be about a dozen of us and it’s looking sunny but breezy. Look out for the blue VW camparvan. Look forward to meeting you

    Regards

    John and Penny
