Ullapool and Torridon

Dear Diary

1st August
Time for a holiday but where to go decisions, decisions, shall I go and lie on a beach somewhere, Via Ferrata in the Dolomites or play in Scotland.

No contest Scotland here I come and accommodation duly booked at Ullapool and Torridon Youth Hostels.

Friday 28th August
I found myself in Scotland consuming a few nippy sweeties with my father 🙂

Saturday 29th August

Up early and heading north to Ullapool with a slight diversion to Strath Carron with the intention of wandering up Moruisg and Sgurr nan Ceannaichean, the forecast was for showers, someone got it wrong, it absolutely chucked it down and I discovered that Kamleika trousers and Event jackets may be waterproof but not on this occasion,

Sunday 30th August

Weather forecast is good, so from Ullapool it was a short drive down Loch Broom to Inverlael and then following the track alongside the River Lael up onto Eididh nan Clach Gleala, Meall nan Ceapraichean, Cona’Mheall and finally Beinn Dearg where at the summit a goat wandered past in the mist. Good day out.

Monday 31st August

Fannaichs today, parked at Loch Droma, followed the pipeline and then headed up onto Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich in glorious sunshire, then on to Sgurr Mor, Meall Gorm and finally An Coileachchan. Needless to say the weather deteriorated during the day and the waterproofs were put to good use.

Tuesday 1st September

Leisurely drive down to Torridon after buying a load of venison steaks from the butcher in Ullapool

Wednesday 2nd September

Weather forecast not brilliant but Liathach here I come. Climb up to the ridge was in clag but coming off of Spidean a’ Choire Leith it cleared just as I reached the pinnacles, good scrambling and on to Mullach an Rathain.

Thursday 3rd September

Beinn Alligin in the rain, it didn’t stop all day. Went anticlockwise and done the horns first as suggested by Andy, good day out despite the weather.

Friday 4th September
South to spend weekend with family, good week and another 14 ticks 🙂
