    Hi,

I’ll be there tonight. Not sure what to say about location – Brimham has the bloody midges, Loch is bored of Almscliffe and Hetchell didn’t have an awful lot to do when we went before.

Previous experience says that “£1 per midge bite” could be very very expensive. But I’ve never paid for parking of an evening’s climbing – only paid when I’ve gone there during the day…

    Hi all
Andrew’s attempt at democracy (throwing open the decision as to location to discussion) seems to have failed! You’re all too nice saying “I don’t mind” etc etc.
We need to cut the Gordian knot and make a decision. So I now unilaterally propose we go to Almscliff. I will just have to overcome my own objections to the venue!

See you all there unless someone posts otherwise.

“Age shall not wither her, nor custom stale
    her infinite variety”
Shakespeare claimed to be writing about Cleopatra, although recent research suggests that he probably took up rock climbing for a time in the early 1600s as part of the research for the “dizzy heights” scene in Lear, so these lines may well relate to the Bard’s visit to Almscliffe.

Andrew’s post made me laugh out loud! this is a common occurrence now I’m an old git.

I would quibble with Shakespeare’s use of the word “infinity”. He is obviously unfamiliar with Cantor’s work on the subject. Expecting familiarity would be anachronistic since Shakespeare was two centuries earlier. There again the bard was sometimes chronologically challenged in his works.
Will stop rambling on now since re-reading this makes me realise that it is a lot of pretentious drivel. Please bear with me.

So “Shakespeare he’s at Almscliff, with his pointed shoes and his bells” (probably explains some of the polish)

But in my book it beats being “stuck inside of Brimham with the midge-bite blues again”

I shall also attempt to get to Almscliff – however I am rather dependent on the good offices of someone with transport to drive me there as I am rather carelessly carless today.

    Matthew.
    (apologies to Mr R Zimmerman)
