The York Mountaineering Club web site has just been updated and now contains the trip reports (blog posts), forum, web pages, membership area (for payments of trips and club membership) and calendar all in one place. It may take a while to get used to the new details and layout, and there may be the old glitch and suggestion for improvement that we will make as and when they arise. Please take the time to look around and ask if you need assistance. The new web site has taken a lot of effort and time to put together by a number of people, we hope you like it.

Quick Reference Guide
Your login details
For this new site you will have a new a username and password. You should have received an email to tell you what it is, or you can retrieve your password here. You can update your password here (in update profile). Your username is not what is displayed on forums etc., you can choose what that is here (nick name). Your username is just what you login with, if you are unhappy about what it is for any reason please send me an email and I will change it. If you have already posted on the old trip reports then your username should be the same, please let me know if it not!

Your Details
The main point to note is that there are 2 distinct areas where you have details about your membership.
The first area are details to do with payments, York MC and BMC details. These are details that are to do with your membership and payments. Link to payment details. You will rarely have to login to this area.
The second are the personal details to be show on the forum, trip reports and the like. They are your ‘community’ details. Link to ‘community’ details. You will login here very often (we hope) to view the forum, members lists, calendar and other member only areas.
Avatars
The avatars that show up next to your name are are automatically generated. To change your avatar (they are now called gravatars) please set up an account with Gravatar.com, upload a picture and specify your email address that’s on your York MC account. It will then appear on the this web site.
Calendar
You can add calendar events here, you must be logged in to post calendar events. When adding an event on the calendar you have the option to add a post, a ‘post’ is a trip report, so this will be the start of a trip report for the event. If you want to add more to this when the event is over you may do so in ‘your posts’ in the blog admin area. We will then publish it to the web site.

Trip Reports
The trip reports are exactly as before. In fact the whole new site is built around the trip reports system (set up by Mark, which is a WordPress blog if you are interested). The design has been changed to incorporate the additional stuff.
Forum
The new forum is completely under our own control with no adverts but does not have any of the old forum posts. Here is the old forum. Here is the new forum. Please note that your login details are different (see ‘Your Details’) to the old forum and that the old forum is now read only. We expect that the old forum will become redundant quite quickly as posts tend to be relevant for only a short period. If you have posts that you think will be relevant for some time or have just posted any topics then please re post them. We hope there will not be any crossover confusion for too long.
