Hi guys, me and a friend are heading up to Glen Shiel for some big mountain days for the last week of March from Monday 26 to Fri 30th or Sat 31st weather depending .

Plan on leaving York on Monday early am if the weather is looking really good in the NW of Scotland and stopping off in Glen Coe for some walking possibly  the Aonach Eagach ridge staying at the Red squirrel campsite behind the Clachaig Inn Monday night and then heading up to Glen Shiel on the Tuesday.

In Glen Shiel plan is to do two big ridge walking days. Like to do the five sisters of Kintail (6 munros) from Shiel Bridge on the first day and then stop at the Claunie Inn Hotel for the night and the following day to head back to Shiel Bridge via the South Glen Shiel ridge (6 – 7 munros). Both of these days will be big winter days out on the hills. If you don’t fancy the full ridge on the second day options are to do part of the ridge and drop down to the valley or hitch / walk back down the valley to Shiel Bridge is a possibility.

Also while up there would like to do the Saddle and Forcan ridge, which is listed as a great grade 1 / 2 winter ridge.

Accommodation wise were planning on staying over on the cheap and camping at Shiel Bridge Caravan Park and campsite, there are other accommodation options available in the area if anyone wants it at the Ratagan SYHA and the Kintail Lodge has a B&B and bunkhouse set up.

These plans as with all Scotland trips is weather dependent and if it’s looking bad weather wise, I’m flexible for shifting to a different part of the highlands for the week if anyone has any suggestions.

Hope you guys can make it across, if anyone is interested in coming along post below.

Ta James

Hi James

This is good for me (weather permitting) as I shall be away the previous weekend 24th/25th March. However I will need to be back myself by Friday evening (because I'm away again at 5pm Friday for the weekend).

I have done Forcan Ridge 3 times tho not in winter. However I doubt there's much snow on it at the moment, although anything can happen inthe next month
