Beinn Bhuidhe

Bienn Bhuidhe a wee cracker

The SMC Munro book suggests that the best way to do this Munro is by following the road past the Glen Fyne brewery to Inverchorachan either walking or cycling, then following a stream up a steep slope into the corrie and eventually onto the ridge leading to the summit.

However as I couldn't be bothered to take my bike and didn't fancy the 4 mile walk up the Glen to Inverchorachan, I decided to try an alternative route via Merk wood and Newton Hill which I had came across on the Scottish Hills website.

From the car park I followed the road into the quarry, then took the track towards Merk Wood, it was steep in places going through the wood but then levelled out as the track reached the col.

From the col I then headed NNW up a steep slope, no track of course, onto the shoulder of Beinn Chas, across the fence and then headed towards Meall an Daimh.

When I started out the cloud base was around 400m but gradually lifted and I hoped that when I got to Beinn Chas that the cloud would have lifted enough for me to see the summit – no such luck it was still in clag and I would end up having all 4 seasons in one day.

The pull up onto the ridge was steep but eventually I met the track that comes up from Inverchorachan and followed it to the summit. The top was in clag so I decided to not to hang about, descending from the summit the cloud cleared and I managed to get a few pics of the ridge and summit. I then stopped for a bite to eat and needless to say 10 mins later I was in the middle of a whiteout which lasted about 15mins, good old Scottish weather.

After which the return journey was rather uneventful, another Munro knocked off the hit list though 🙂 Knoydart next !!
