Pembroke 27th may 2005

Just back from a fantastic trip, sea cliff climbing at Bosherston, Pembroke.
The gang was, Seb, Santiago, Pete, Rich 'Magic', Rich '10K' and me.

After the best part of 7 hours drive, we arrived and so did the rain, at least we made last orders at the local boozzza!
Day 1:A lie in saw the weather break and by 11 am we were heading to Saddle Head in glorious sun shine for our first days climbing.

A strong wind and a heavy sea gave great atmosphere and a load of spray!
Saddle head offers lots of routes up to HS the  choice being 'Sea Mist'!
Access is best by abseil to a shelf which is above the high tide level..... luxury!!

We rounded off the day with a return trip to Bosherston's finest (and only) Boozzza!

Day 2:
Saw us heading to Flimston Slab, again glorious weather but this time no wind. Flimston slab was rather over populated, so we moved down the cost to Bow Shaped slab.
Access was again abseil, this time the shelf was below the high tide level so a hanging belay was in order.

Later in the day we moved on again, to Crystal Slab. Access was a short scramble then some clambering over large rocks. Rich 'Magic' led 'Michelanglo' VS 4c, a good effort!

Rich '10K' led 'The Crucifix' VS 4c, the photo right shows Seb just past the crux, seconding. >>>

We climbed till gone 7pm, then all headed down to Broad Haven beach for a BBQ. Sandy sausages and a couple of tin-nies rounded off the day nicely.

The forecast for Monday, was for the return of bad weather, so we hit our sleeping bags thankful for the two excellent days we had just had.

Day3: To our surprise the forecast was wrong and we were treated to another glorious day! Today's destination was Stennis head and some of the best route names of the trip, if a little hard for us to climb! 'Stennis Elbow' E2 5c, 'Anyone for Stennis' E2 5b, 'Merchant of Stennis'E2 5c and the best 'Stennis the Menace' E6 6b.

After taking time out to go to church!
Well a quick look around St. Govan's Chapel, we finally got established at Stennis Head.

Access was via a short scramble, Rich '10K' started the day off with with a warm up 'North Corner' VD the 6a start provided interest! OK ..... it was 6a the way I went!

Seb and Pete put in great leads of the very steep 'Highland Fling' HS 4b, but route of the day goes to Rich 'Magic' Johnson, 'Limbo' VS 4c.......... top lead!

We said good bye to Bosherston at 4pm and were home by 10pm.

Once again thanks to all for a fantastic trip, looking forward to the next one.
