| Nice Ice Baby Sunday, saw Gibson, Magic, 10K, Kirsty and my self heading across to the Lakes. Our destination after a lot of discussion was the Buttermere area, to be more precise Dove Crag on Grasmoor. From our car park next to Crumock Water the prospect of finding snow or ice looked bleak, and the walk in up Gasgale Gill was uninspiring! Things started to look up as we traversed in to the cove below Dove Crag. Photo right: Icicle

The routes we had intended, whilst in condition didn't look their best. The choice of the day, was some buttresses of water ice to the left of the main crag. Providing some superb ice bouldering problems and some pitches of up to 40m of in places vertical ice. The Icicle above looked too fragile to climb, but actual survived 4.5 assents, its demise came from a sensitively placed Kirsty size boot! Doh................. girls! Last and best lead of the day was from Harrison (10K) pictured left, Grade 5, and a good one at that. |

We took a more direct route back to the car. Towards a dramatically lit Gasgale Crags then down the steep way to Gasgale Gill. The snow was all gone below 800m. Staying just above this we had plenty of ammunition to lampoon the unfortunate Kirsty! Looks like she had the last laugh, as we were rubbish at snow balling! Please take careful note of the latest light weight 'must have'! Sported, if you look carefully, by Gibson! Yes, a KIMMLite Cod piece! On that note its time to say thanks for a great day out! As ever looking forward to the next one. Simon Photo left: The Gang from left Madgic, 10K, Kirsty and Gibson |
