| Costs: Costs depends on the trips. Obviously the distance to travel and the nature of the activity and accomodation will vary costs greatly. A typical trip to the far NW of Scotlabnd will cost £100-120 in petrol, this is the biggest cost but normally shared between those in the car. Hence more in the car the cheaper it is! Several
of us have cars that can, at a
squeeze, fit five. We share out none drivers between drivers and try
and maximise the people to car ratio, without setting a limit to
numbers. If numbers are height we split into smaller self contained
groups each responsible for their own transport and accommodation,
meeting during the weekend for activities and the odd drink Saturday
night.
Accommodation:Weekenders will need to pre pack two breakfasts and two lunches, we eat out Friday (quick snack) and Saturday night( £15-50!!!) For groups of 4 or less we would not bother booking accommodation (except Bank holls), just ring on the way up. Accommodation is bunk house or hostel at between £8-12 per night. Camping is a good option during the summer (and for some members in the winter too!) Leaving time: Typical leaving time form York is 4-6pm Friday night and returning between 9-12pm Sunday night. Insurance: We insist
on 3rd part liability
insurance which is available as part of York Mountaineering Club
membership or
BMC individula membership! (we are cheaper)
Weather and objectives: Final location is dependent on the weather, final objective is dependent on the weather, if the forecast is very bad, final decision on whether we go is made Thursday evening. If the forecast is 50:50 then we go! For
larger groups accommodation has to
be paid for in advance, and is normally not refundable. We book as
late as possible and go anyway, if this is the case. We do what
ever the weather allows. Full deposits are required in this case.
Spring
and Autumn Munro baggin' is our
goal. Summer and we are backpacking and multi pitching. Winter we are
winter climbing and walking, so pack light but remember the essentials.
.
Flexibility
is the name of the game and we have a record of successful weekends
that back up this approach!
