Kirsty's Blog - 2006

Hi, my name is Kirsty Brien, I am an  Outdoor Pursuits Instructor and Adventure travel Guide. I am also a member of YMC and this is my blog of 2006. You won't often see me down the Bay 'oss on a Thursday night as I live out in the sticks but I'm always there in spirit. I do club thing on a weekend unless I am away with work! I would like to share with you some of my favorite photos of the year, mostly taken whilst at work!  I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Can you believe I get paid for this!..... ;-)

Spring
Jordan

After a walk through the narrow winding siq (gorge)- its there, Indiana Jones style- the treasury at Petra.
The most awesome lunch-spot! (sadly climbing on this stuff is a bit frowned upon...)Petra, Jordan

Ive said it few times, but will again... WADI RUM IS AWESOME, it has BILLIONS of routes waiting to be climbed and the scenery and people are ace
Baby camels, how cute..wouldn't want to mess with its mum though.. Wadi Rum Desert, Jordan
!

Not quite sure this picture capture just how completely BONKERS this Arab endurance racing horse was- obviously 'whoa' didn't translate into Jordanian.

Summer
Northumberland

Lobo, Skippy, Laura and Tracey (leading) discovering the delights of cragging on superb sandstone at Bowden Doors (under 3 hours from York..) ..ok maybe Lobo and Skip didn't quite appreciate the merits of solid sandstone climbing, but you get the point...

another awesome Northumberland crag- 10 mins walk, Kyloe Crag, Dave leading the 3 star Flake Crack

Lost..well not really, appreciating the wildlife en-route to St. Cuthberts cave

..Northumberland's other great attraction.. the fantastic beaches below Bamburgh Castle

Mid Summer
Iceland and the Laugervagur Trail

The spectacular mountain scenery at the start of the Laugervagur Trail, Southern Iceland

Awesome volcanic mountain scenery en route to Thorsmork

The team looking towards the icecaps high on the trail

...how much better does it get?? The view towards camp at the Alfavatn Lakes, awesome, (although due to the group's inability to cope with scree it took nearly 4 hours to get there...)
Rekjavik- a place where a BLT, chips and a beer really does come to a modest...£27.00

The Peruvian Andes

The fantastic Inca ruins of Sacsayhuaman (pronounced sexy woooman!!)
just outside of Cusco

...'Happy Birthday, Son', we couldn't find  a suitable dog... so we got you an alpaca...

Macchu Picchu...ok weve all seen it on the travel programmes and I hate to say it, but it is 1000 times more spectacular up close...

...lazing the afternoon away on a boat made of reeds floating between the Uros Islands at 4000m alt. on Lake Titicaca

.....thoughtful or p*ssed off.?? ..you decide... Island Statue, Lake Titicaca

Late Summer

The Pyrenees

leading  a pitch at Auzat, near the French Pyrenees

A day in the mountains, myself and Tenk en-route to the Andorran border....
...myself and Tenk deciding Andorra was a bit ambitious for one day and heading back down for a beer!

Autumn
Morocco's High Atlas

...sightseeing in the Spectacular Todra Gorge... sun, awesome rock, massive routes... oh and the inconvinience of having to look after a gaggle of 13 year olds from Wimbledon...ho hum

The campsite view of  the ruined fortess of 'AArg' (sounds all a bit Monty-python-esque to me)

..a bona fide camel train, heading into the high Atlas from Todra

...smalll berber child, swiftly polishing off a weeks supply of biscuits...bloomin nomads...

Winter

At home and some of my favorite local shots

a holly hedge.. the back field...kilburn
