Alpine Mountain Biking
June 2006

Just back from a great trip to Chamonix in the French Alps.
We took the ferry from Dover to Calais and drove down through France.

Our Accommodation was in les Houches and our first days biking was from the local lift their. In the shadow of Mont Blanc!

A day pass for the lift was 14 Euros and that was the up hill done for the day! Yo-Ho! Down hill all the way!

The marked routes were not too exciting but until July bikes are permitted on footpath so there was plenty of interesting single track to be had.

The Chamonix valley is very much focused on Walking with a bit of biking available, were as Morzine (about 1h drive away) is totally focused on Mountain Biking! So that were we headed.

A day pass covered lifts at Morzine and les Gets we found Blue Red and  Black runs and plenty of exciting single through the trees if you were repaired to venture of the main biking tracks. From the 1st of July many more lift are open, making big round trips possible.

All in all a fantastic trip, would I go back? You bet...... but with body armor and a full face helmet!

Thanks to J 'n' D for sorting out the Accommodation.
